In the hustle and bustle of making wedding plans, oftentimes the happy couple completely forgets about booking transportation for the wedding day. In the grand scheme of things that need to be booked and planned, it’s understandable why many people forget about this. The only problem is that pushing this off to the last minute often leads to frantic phone calls the day before the wedding as a hapless member of the wedding party tries to find transportation. Don’t let that happen to you – here are some tips on how to plan your wedding day transportation to help ensure a smooth ending to a wonderful day.

The first thing you need to do is figure out your transportation needs. How many people need to be transported? Where are they being transported to and from? What time will you require the transportation? How far away is everyone located? How much have a budgeted for transportation? These are just a few of the questions you’ll need to ask yourself. Some common transportation needs include fetching guests from the airport, shuttling members of the wedding party to the location the wedding will take place, and taking the bride and groom home after the wedding.

Once you’ve figured out your transportation requirements, take a look at your budget. If you need to transport a lot of people, consider getting a stretch limo, town car, bus or minivan. If there are only a few people who need to be transported, you can probably pay for a more expensive transportation option for the couple. On the other hand, if you have an extended network of friends and family that are willing to help out, you can cut your costs radically by having those people do the driving.

If the couple is dead set on having a fancy chauffeured vehicle instead of a friend’s car, then you need to think about what kind of transportation to rent. Limousines are quite popular and are considered a staple for weddings by many. Some people like having a more nontraditional car, such as a convertible, vintage car, luxury car or town car. Others would prefer to forgo the car and go for something like a horse and carriage. The only problem with a horse and carriage is that they aren’t advisable unless the couple is getting married in a location that allows horses, such as a park. Also, if the wedding and reception are being held in two different places, take the fact that horses are far slower than cars into consideration.

In addition to transporting people to the wedding, you’ll also need to arrange for parking for all the people who are planning to drive themselves to the wedding. The manager of the wedding site should have parking options ready for you to choose from. Many sites can handle parking with their own staff, while other sites require you to provide an independent valet service. A good rule of thumb is that you need four valets or two to three parking attendants per every one hundred guests expected to show up.

I love the horse & carriage idea. I’ve thought about my husband and renewing our vows – and that sounds like something I would love to do! *And* I do have some teens growing up too fast, who’ll no doubt be taking that big step too soon. Nice, informative article 🙂

I can’t even comment on our transportation for our wedding day. My (now) husband calling the day before our wedding for a limo didn’t cut it. Thanks, honey. hehe

Nice information. It depends on the person’s choice. I agree with you that couple forgets to book transportation and they face problem on that day. However, there are many companies give a car on rent for the wedding day so book in advance and enjoy and make your day memorable.
