Use Shoeboxed to Stay Organized

I recently found while doing my taxes. It is a great site for keeping track of your tax information, but as I was playing with it I realized it would also be great for wedding planning!

The site is pretty simple. You send in your receipts, notes, business cards, invoices, quotes, interviews, etc and they will scan, organize, and file them for you.

A few applications for those of you planning a wedding

  • Addresses for the showers and wedding
  • Gift lists from your shower and wedding (how great would it be to have your gift list and address list in the same place!)
  • Vendor price quotes and interview answers
  • Vendor contracts
  • All of your receipts – everything from the table decorations to the reception hall!
  • Random notes that you leave for yourself.

There is a free DIY version (online receipts that you can scan and organize yourself). There is also a 30 day free trial on the mail-in and let them organize it option so you can see if it is for you. After that you have the option of going month to month ($9.95 per month for the 50/month plan) or signing up for a year and getting 2 months free.

When your membership is over you will still have access to all of your information!! This is important because you can still use those addresses and you can still access your contracts if something comes up. You could start the service when the wedding planning start to get busy and stop it after the wedding and still have everything stored for you.

I like the sound of the DIY version where you scan your own items (that’s easy enough to do at home nowadays). I would be too nervous to send personal info out in the mail like that!

The DIY would be nice 🙂 I don’t think I would want to send really personal stuff in the mail, but I think it would be really nice for receipts/notes/etc.

Interesting! I’m not sure I would like it. I was irked when I no longer got cancelled checks back from the bank – lol. I like to store that stuff myself. But, I can definitely see the appeal, especially for wedding planning, but maybe not financial documents.

I hate storing stuff, LOL! It is one of the few things my hubby and I disagree on – I like to change everything over to electronic forms so it doesn’t take up space and he likes to have the paper form in hand.
