Creating a budget for your wedding is a MUST! It is good to have a budget to fall back on as you get caught up in the “heat of the moment” planning and shopping. There are a few things you need to consider as you make the budget.
Who pays for what? It used to be that a brides family paid for most of the expenses, but as the marriage age increased the brides and grooms themselves started pitching in. The grooms families also can provide some of the wedding budget. How you decide to handle the wedding finances is completely up to you, just make sure you know ahead of time.
You can split the costs by wedding categories or by a specific amount. If you get a specific amount from either side or you have budgeted a specific amount then go ahead and split it into the categories before hand. If you underspend in one area then you can add the extra amount to another budget. If you do it this way then you will always have a specific amount in mind as you are looking for what you need.
When you are splitting up the wedding money try to decide what your priorities are. If you want an amazing wedding cake then you can cut costs in another area. You do not have to be frugal in every area, but you do not have to spend a fortune in every area either. There are also ways that you can get exactly what you want for less, like in this wedding dress post.
Having a wedding budget will allow you to create the wedding of your dreams without putting yourself and your spouse in financial ruin!
